October 2, 2017 – In an effort to enhance the right
turning movement for motorists exiting I-575 EB onto Ridgewalk Parkway, the
City of Woodstock hosted a groundbreaking ceremony today on the Ridgewalk
Parkway Interchange project.
The project will widen the right turn lane at the
intersection of I-575 NB exit ramp at Ridgewalk Parkway. The resulting
improvement will allow vehicles to exit the ramp more efficiently, thereby
reducing congestion and wait times. Additionally, by improving the traffic flow
eastbound, drivers turning left off of the ramp, heading westbound to
Brookshire or Park 9, for example, should be able to reach the signal faster at
the top of the ramp.
The City of Woodstock is pursuing this project with
permission from the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), with GDOT
granting the City a special encroachment permit to proceed. Tucker Grading and
Hauling of Canton, GA, was awarded the contract through the procurement process
as the lowest qualified bidder.
The project, which will start this week, is anticipated to
take approximately 45 days and work will occur during non-peak hours.
working in partnership with Cherokee County to permit some additional
modifications to the overall intersection. This represents the first step
as it didn't require a modification to the original permits” says Woodstock
City Manager, Jeffrey Moon.
