The Mayor and Council along with key staff annually hold a "Mayor and Council Retreat" to review and discuss the following:

* The Elected Body's Vision for the City's Future;
* Prior Year Accomplishments;
* Where We Stand Today;
* Needs Assessment for the Upcoming Budget Year;
* Needs Assessment for the Future;
* Quality of Life Issues;
* Personnel Needs.

It is after much discussion, strategizing and intense planning that the Mayor and Council are able to set short-term and long-term goals and objectives to ensure that both they and City Staff stay on task in implementing the Vision they have set forth.

2014 Strategic Plan

The City of Woodstock is governed by a Council-Manager form of government.  Under this form of government, the City Council provides the primary policy-making role, and an appointed City Manager provides the primary executive role.  It combines the strong political leadership of the elected Mayor and Council with the strong managerial experience of an appointed local government manager.

The City of Woodstock's Mayor is elected at large and runs at large while the City Council is divided into six wards but are also elected at large.  Elections are held in odd numbered years.  Our next election will be held in November 2011. 

Boards and Committees

The City of Woodstock has citizen-based boards, committees and commissions which report directly to the Mayor and City Council regarding a wide varity of issues.  Active boards, committees and commissions are:

Planning Commission
Ethics Board
Parks and Recreation Advisory Board

All meetings are open to the public pursuant to the Georgia Government Sunshine Law. Therefore, the press and public must be notified, and an agenda posted at the meeting place at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting.  Minutes will be taken at all meetings.  If you are interested in volunteering your time by serving on one of the boards, committees or commissions, complete the Application for Appointment and return to the City Clerk's office.

The Mayor and Council hold their regular meetings on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month at 7 pm at Woodstock City Hall located at 12453 Hwy 92, Woodstock, GA.  There are three slots available for public comment at these meetings.  Public comment is limited to five minutes per person and cannot be about an item that is on the agenda for that night.  Public Hearing sign up sheets are available for advertised public hearing items.  Mayor and Council work sessions are held the 3rd Monday of the month at 7 pm at Woodstock City Hall.  All meetings are open to the public unless specified as an executive session for the purpose of discussing real estate, litigation, personnel matters or other issues specifically allowed by law.
