Obtaining a Permit

Building Permits

Building permits that require plan review consist of but are not limited to:
  - New Construction
  - Alterations
  - Additions
  - Retaining Walls
  - Tents
  - Demolition
  - Blasting
  - Swimming Pools
  - Some Accessory Structures

Applications for these permits can be found here under the Building Department Applications subsection. Please check each application carefully to ensure that all information and documentation on the checklist of the application is included.

Plan review can take anywhere from a few days to 30 days, depending on the size of the project and how busy our office is.  We review plans in the order we receive them.  When plan review is complete, the contractor will be contacted with the fee total.

For all commercial projects an upfront plan review fee is required based on the construction value:
    For construction value of $5,000 or less = $25.00
    For construction value of $5,000.01 - $50,000 = $100.00
    For construction value of $50,000.01 - $150,000 = $200.00
    For construction value of $150,000.01 or more = $300.00

Applications may be dropped off in our office Monday - Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M.  Someone is always available in the office during the lunch hour. You may also email or fax applications for these to or (770) 926-7820.


Stand Alone / Sub Permits

We are able to issue permits for electrical, mechanical, plumbing and gas trades on the same day the application is submitted as long as all required documentation is included. Each application has a Unit Count Schedule on the back that should be filled out in order to calculate the appropriate fee. This fee is to be paid at issuance of the permit. The applicant may use a Credit Card Authorization Form to submit this payment by fax or email (Visa and Mastercard only).

Sign Permits


Temporary Sign / 15 Day Banners Permits

We are able to issue permits for temporary signs and 15 day banners on the same day the application is submitted as long as all required documentation is included. There is no fee for temporary signs and 15 day banners. The maximum size for temporary signs is 32 square feet and the maximum size for all banners is 24 square feet.

Permanent Sign Permits

Sign permit review takes under 30 days. Usually it is 1 - 2 weeks, depending on how busy our office is. We review permits in the order we receive them. Please remember to call for an inspection after the sign is installed. Code requirements for permanent signs per our ordinance can be found here. The cost for permanent sign permits is $50.00 plus $1 per square foot of sign area. This fee must be paid upfront with submission of your application.
