General Information

Taxes are generated on property values that are determined by the Cherokee County Tax Assessors office. The City of Woodstock Millage Rate for 2012 is 7.889.

Homestead exemptions must be filed with the Cherokee County Tax Assessors office by April 1 of the effective year.

Property tax bills are mailed on or about October 20th each year and payment is due upon receipt. Taxes not paid within 60 days of mailing become delinquent (usually on December 20th).  Delinquent taxes will incur a 10% penalty plus 1% interest per month on any portion thereof, figured on the principal plus the 10% penalty.  Administrative levy fees incurred will be added to each account.

If you have not received a tax bill by October 31 or if you are a new property owner and cannot obtain a tax bill from the previous owner,
please call our office at (770) 592-6003 or search our website at www.woodstockga.govFailure to receive a tax bill does not relieve you of the responsibility to make payment by the due date.  If full payment is not received by the due date, penalties, interest and collection costs will be added.  Penalties, interest and collection charges shall not be waived, regardless of the reason for the delinquent payment.

Mortgage Company Billing Information

Usually, escrow accounts are set up by mortgage companies for payment of property taxes.  After the account is established, the mortgage company will send written notification to the tax office that they are paying the property taxes.  A copy of the tax bill will be sent to the homeowner and the mortgage company.  The homeowner is still responsible for making sure taxes are paid by the due date.  If your mortgage company has recently changed or if you are a new homeowner, you should send a copy of the tax bill to the mortgage company.

Mortgage companies should use this template to request property tax information.
