Formed in 2007 the Woodstock Police Department Law Enforcement Explorer Post has been a program for young men and women interested in learning about careers in law enforcement. Explorers are provided with educational training programs for young adults on the purposes, mission, and objectives of law enforcement. The program provides career orientation experiences, leadership opportunities, and community service activities. The primary goals of the program are to help young adults choose a career path within law enforcement and to challenge them to become responsible citizens of their communities.
The Woodstock Police Department Law Enforcement Explorer Post is a volunteer unit of the Woodstock Police Department assigned to the Neighborhood Services Unit. By being part of Neighborhood Services the unit strives to help the Woodstock communities in safety related issues such as assisting in COPS areas, assisting the Woodstock school system with security issues at special events, assisting with community improvement efforts, directing traffic at parades and other special events, helping search for missing children, assisting on routine patrol, helping with duties in the police department, and most importantly assist with community outreach efforts in Woodstock's communities.

Throughout the year our Explorers have numerous opportunities to participate in various activities through the city and police department. Locally our Explorers assist with all city events alongside our officers to make each and every event run smoothly. Interested teenagers can join the Woodstock Police Department Law Enforcement Explorer Unit by being between the ages of 14 and 21, being in high school or college with at least a C / 2.0 average, being in good standing with all Woodstock police officers and civilian employees, being in good standing with the Boy Scouts of America and must be free of any criminal record.
The Woodstock Police Department Law Enforcement Explorer Post meets every Tuesday evening at 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm for uniform inspection, training, discussions, and planning of many different projects and events Explorers participate in all year long.
The City of Woodstock Police Explorer Post is a free program offered through the police department via budgeting and through the generous donations from the Woodstock Public Safety Foundation. The overall cost to Explorers is limited costs associated with travel to various competitions and minor Explorer specific uniform items.
