CITY OF WOODSTOCK BREAKS GROUND ON CHAMBERS STREET EXTENSION

The City of Woodstock and Winter Construction held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Chambers Street Extension on Monday, April 10th in downtown Woodstock.

Construction of the new section of Chambers Street will provide for two-way traffic flow and allow for the removal of East Main Street from Arnold Mill Road to Wheeler Street. The project is part of Phase I of Woodstock City Center.

“Woodstock is a pivotal regional hub for north Georgia from the award-winning trail system and parks to the ever-improving infrastructure,” said Mayor Michael Caldwell. “The City Center project and the Chambers Street Extension is a key part of Woodstock’s comprehensive approach to infrastructure investment.”

The extension of Chambers Street from Arnold Mill Road to Wheeler Street establishes a grid street connection that will eventually run all the way to Dupree Road. The street extension will allow for efficient access to the downtown parking deck when complete.

According to Mayor Caldwell, “This will transform downtown Woodstock with tens of thousands of square feet of new office space and hotel offerings plus restaurants and retail bringing 647 new parking spaces to downtown Woodstock.” Mayor Caldwell continued, “With 3.2 million visitors in the last year, we know this is a place people want to be. We are making sure this is a place people want to stay.”

Construction of the Chambers Street Extension is scheduled to be complete in late 2023.
