Firefighters Minimum Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess good moral character with no felony convictions of a crime of moral turpitude
  • Have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • EMT 
  • Basic Firefighter 
  • Must have a current United States Drivers License

Preferred Qualifications

  • NPQ Firefighter I or II certifications
  • Certifications in: Intermediate EMT I, Advanced EMT, or Paramedic
  • Any candidate who is NPQ I or NPQ II certified but is not a Georgia State Certified Firefighter must successfully challenge the Georgia Firefighter Certification Examination.

Candidate is ineligible if:

  • Georgia State Firefighter Certification or NPQ I or NPQ II Certification has been suspended or revoked or is currently under investigation
  • Has been convicted of a felony within the past ten (10) years

Employee Salary Summary

Firefighter I-EMT-B: NPQ Pro Board Firefighter 1 certification and EMT-B basic EMT certification     

  • Annual Salary Up To $43,658.98

Firefighter I-EMT-I or AEMT: NPQ Pro Board Firefighter 1 certification and AEMT, advanced EMT certification

  • Annual Salary Up To $48,156.04

Firefighter II-EMT-B: NPQ Pro Board Firefighter II certification and EMT-B, basic EMT certification

  • Annual Salary Up To $48,156.04

Firefighter II-EMT-I or AEMT: NPQ Pro Board Firefighter II certification and EMT-I or AEMT, intermediate or Advance EMT certification

  • Annual Salary Up To $50,591.95

Firefighter II-EMT-P: NPQ Pro Board Firefighter II certification and EMT-P, paramedic certification

  • Annual Salary Up To $53,152.78

  • City Pension managed by Georgia Municipal Association is fully funded by City of Woodstock. Employees are 100% vested in 5 years. Enhanced benefits for Public Safety. When the employees’ age plus years of service equals 80 (rule of 80), the individual may receive full amount of their retirement at the minimum age of 55 years old. Retirement benefits are based on 60 consecutive months of highest earnings. The city pension is figured on a 2% multiplier per years of service. Example: 10 years of service equals 20% of the highest consecutive average annual salary in the past 60 months.
  • State Firefighters Pension Fund can be payroll deducted $25.00 per month (go to their website for retirement amounts and other information).
